Gossip Girl 3:8 "The Grandfather: Part II"
Posted by Meghan Doherty
On tonight’s episode of Gossip girl there were two instances in which I felt were highly relatable to the world of public relations. In the first scenario, Serena is working for a public relations firm and during an argument with her boss she says "I know, my only value is my social network." In the world of PR having a strong social network can very helpful is creating trusting and mutually beneficial relationships with your clients. The other instance where I felt that there was a strong PR presence was when Nate's cousin, Trip who happens to be campaigning for a political position in NYC, finds himself amidst a pseudoevent, one which he has no idea he is taking part in. For those of you who don’t know what a pseudoevent is, it is merely an event that is created for the sake of reporting on it in order to gain publicity. If the media is not present, there is no event. Trip jumps into the Hudson River to save a drowning man and is automatically labeled a hero. We then come to find out that his wife paid this “drowning man” to fake his struggle in the water in order for her kind natured husband to gain some valuable publicity for his campaign.
