Learn something new .....

Posted by Karen Teeley

Okay, so this is going out on a limb... but I have fallen out of trees before so why not this one?

I recently attended the Colleges of the Fenway Fall Teaching and Learning conference and was struck (again) by how little time faculty have for sharing ideas about their own teaching and learning practices....and other good sources of information. So I thought that this might be a good forum just for sharing ideas and resources. As everyone knows, there are not enough hours in the day to find all the good stuff on our own.

I came away with a couple of new (to me) interesting websites. One was the Pew Report from the Pew Internet and American Life project at http://www.pewinternet.org/report_display.asp?r=162
This report talks about the rise of a "participatory" culture (MySpace, IM etc)and how teens create content that matters and the pedagogical implications.

The other interesting thing I learned about was the product Elluminate 's Vroom at http://www.elluminate.com/vroom/. I haven't tried it out yet but it might be useful for virtual office hours... and it is free for up to 3 users. Looks like it might be fun to try out.

All for now. More later.

Hi Karen

I have tried several different virtual meeting environments (WebEx, GoTo Meeting....) and Elluminate. By far I liked Elluminate the best! How about these new tools for us to find each other?!?!?! I just posted my first as well.

I loved your PTRC lunch presentation last week! So great to hear how far you have gone with your implementation of blended learning. I'm puttering along myself, but nowhere near as polished as your efforts thus far. How do you find the time?
