Different sisters, different weddings

Posted by Amanda Collins

My two sisters and I all planning weddings for this year is, well, interesting. Besides the warring over colors, dates, dresses and hairdos, the experience has been sort of enlightening. It's interesting to see how even though we all grew up together, we each turned out so differently. This really shows when I look at the kind of wedding each of us is planning.

Danielle, my oldest sister, is going for the whole shebang: big white dress, flowers, giant cake, lots of guests and lots of stress. Of the three of us, she has always been the most traditional...and the most uptight.

Kristin, my other sister, is opting for a beach wedding. She wants to wear a beachy dress with no shoes, and then have an elegant in-door reception with lots of fancy foods. She has always been the one of us who can never make her mind.

Meanwhile, Travis and I aren't buying in to all the wedding hype. When we get married, we want it to be just the two us, at a courthouse. Then we want to celebrate our union with just close friends and family in a very informal, but still nice, reception. This will be outdoors under a tent, with our favorite foods and lots of dancing and fun--but nothing fancy. We think it should just be about fun and celebrating, totally stress-free. Maybe that's because I have always been the most laid back of my family.

The way each of us is going about planning our special days shows just how different we are.

This is very interesting comparisons and observation among sisters. Thanks for sharing, and best wishes on your wedding!

your comment about sisters growing up together and still being so different really resonates with me and my sister.

This must be such a fun, exciting experience! Hopefully it's not too overwhelming with all the planning. It sounds like you are really close with your sisters, though!

Having been the father of the bride twice in the past couple of years, I vote for the CHEAPEST most fun wedding.

I think its great that you're seeing how each of you is so different. I think the moment when you realize how different you are than your siblings is when you have children and they have children.
