bridal brawls

Posted by Amanda Collins

Have you ever watched that show "Bridezillas"? I'm always amazed at how worked up these women get over such insignificant things, throwing temper tantrums over the littlest details. I bet after their weddings these brides watch the episode and are horrified. If only they could take a step back from the sitaution, and look at it through objective eyes, they could see how silly they are.

As my two sisters and I plan our weddings for later this year, there have been a number of Bridezilla moments. In a family of all girls, I'm pretty used to cat fights, but until the wedding-planning I hadn't seen many of them since we were all teenagers. Luckily for me, I haven't really been involved, but have sat back and watched their fur fly over everything from tablecloth colors to the guest list. Who cares if one or two things are the same at the weddings, I've always thought.

But now, I care.

Something has finally happened for me take issue with. I'm not one for cat fights, but I'm having a hard time not showing my claws. So what's the big deal, you ask?

Paper lanterns.

My plan- from long, long ago- was to cover the ceiling of wherever my nuptials were with delicate paper lanterns. I think they look beautiful--plus they are cheap. Now, they will be looking beautiful at my sister Danielle's wedding, this June. (Way before mine in October.)

When I found out she was using my idea I was furious. I told Travis she had ripped me off, which he laughed off. He said I'm acting like "one of them."

The lanterns were going to be my signature touch, though, and I felt I had the right to feel jipped. But now I'm wondering if Travis is right.

Don't let me be a bridezilla. I need some objective eyes. Am I right to be mad, or am I just mad?

(In case you have no idea what I'm talking about--here's a picture of what I envisioned http://www.herecomestheblog.com/Paper%20Lanterns2.jpg)

My objective opinion is that the paper lanterns will look just as nice at your October wedding. It probably matters more because the weddings are so close... but if they were years apart how would you feel? Consider it a compliment that your sister liked your idea. And, be greatful if this is the worst thing you and your sisters ever fight over...
