This past weekend, I went shopping with my family to Wrentham Outlets, where supposedly you can find the best deals on anything from Aeropostale to Bebe, to fashion designers like Michael Kors. Yet everytime I go there I never feel like the prices are all the that different than what's in the mall. They always say that shopping at outlets, are where people can get the best deals but I wonder if that is really true or just a gimmick to drive business.
One thing I do like about Wrentham Outlets is that they do have a few specialty stores that I usually don't see anywhere else. That is one thing I do like about going there, but other than that I just feel that I am much better off shopping at the local mall. It's always so interesting to me, how busy it is when I go there, it usually takes forever to find parking and sometimes I've had to wait in line to enter a store because there were too many people inside. Is this all because people think they are getting a deal? Does everyone believ ... more »

Lately I have noticed that living on Beacon St. as opposed to living on Simmons Res Campus, has made me spend more on food than I used to. I love the area, my room, and the overall Beacon environment, yet I seem to spend so much more money living here just for the simple fact that I live further away from the dining halls. When I first moved in, I didn't think it would be too much of a big deal, but now I'm noticing that I spend significantly more. I have heard other residents, saying the same thing, so I often wonder if it is worth it to live on Beacon St. when I know I would be spending less if I was closer to the dining halls.
I think it's interesting how a change in location can drastically change your spending habits. In addition to food, there's more shopping areas and cafes surrounding the area, which all add to me buying more than I used to. Yet I often wonder if it is worth it, part of me says yes and the other says no. But because I like Beacon, I have decided to just manag ... more »

BOB (10/15)
If you’ve ever seen SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE (and you’re not of Indian descent) you’ve probably experienced the same urge to buy a long yellow scarf, learn bollywood moves, and fall in love with an Indian guy. It’s so funny how these love movies make you feel. One minute you’ve sworn off love, and then one Paper Planes, Dev Patel scene later, you’re ready to meet someone new. I fell in love with this movie because it gave me HOPE. Not the Obama kind of Hope, the real kind; the kind that keeps you from killing yourself after dating another jerk. Like I’ve stated in my past blog, the divorce rate is UP. These movies are giving women another reason not to give up.
TITANIC makes me want to sing Celine Dion. It makes me want to hold someone’s hands and whorl around. Dance to Irish music, drink beer, and stand on my tip toes. It makes me want to stay away from boats altogether, but it also makes me want to stand on the bow of a ship, screaming I’M KING OF THE ... more »

Amidst all the controversy surrounding the 2009 incident with Chris Brown, Rihanna has dropped her latest single,"Russian Roulette" off her new album, “Rated R”. Based on the album cover alone, Rihanna makes it clear her new single and image will address some raw subject matter. I wanted to look at the latest single to see what kind of lyrics she and co-writer Neyo had in store for fans.
First off, the song is about a deadly game/relationship(certainly sounds like life imitating art) with a gun and a man who, “says close your eyes.” The song describes anxiety, fear, and the “scary thought/that he’s (the man) here means he’s never lost “(has never lost the deadly game).”
And by the chorus lines that conclude the song, listeners get, “ As my life flashes before my eyes/I’m wondering will I ever see another sunrise/So many won’t get the chance to say goodbye/But it’s too late to pick up the value of my life.” This could be interpreted as the singer/narrator of ... more »

Let me premise this post by saying I'm not a very traditional person..
that being said, I have a very memorable first dance planned. I want to start by dancing to a slow song, such as Could I Have This Dance by Anne Murray. Or if I wanted to go more modern, Echo by Incubus. (or anything by Incubus I just love them.) But I digress.. about 30 seconds to a min into the song, have the DJ invite the rest of the bridal party out to the dance floor. We slow dance for about 10 or 20 more seconds and then the DJ pretends to screw up the song and it cuts out. We all look around confused.. the guests are horrified.. then Micheal Jacksons Thriller comes on.. and the entire bridal party busts out into a choreographed version!!

Everyone in my bridal party is so ready to do this... how fantastic! I want this wedding to be fun and memorable and I think it is turning out that way!!

Hello Everyone!
Alright, so a lot has been happing in the music scene lately. Its now november! Thus, I am going to try things a little different for this post. I am going to review one album in its entirety...
1. From the Hut,to the projects to the Mansion; Wyclef Jean; dropped 11/10/09
Wyclef is back in da house! finally! This new album is different from anything Wyclef has released. Wyclef, in a recent EW.com interview explains that he made the "CD, a collaboration with mixtape producer DJ Drama, to inform young listeners (and remind older ones), that the musician and producer is also a rapper. That means, in part, adopting the alter-ego of “Toussaint St. Jean,” a nod to the 18th-century Haitian revolutionary Toussaint L’Ouverture. 'It was very important to go back to the basic fundamentals,' he says. 'It’s important [for people to realize], ‘Oh, damn, despite everything—we see him shaking his hips with Shakira, he write all of these big songs—his fundamentals are hi ... more »

Buon Giorno!
I hope everyone had a quick lax week. I don't know about you, but the whole wednesday off thing really worked for me.
Anyway.
As I was engaged in italian this morning, sucking up everything my professor said like a sponge (ha), I could not get this one song out of my head. I don't know why...I actually haven't listened to this album in quite some time. But the entire cd is absolutely fantastic and this song is pure poetry. Seriously.
It's called The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is out to Get Us by Sufjan Stevens. No joke, that is the title. This little genius likes to come up with super complicated complex titles for most of his songs. It's great in my opinion.
Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRW2g2l49fk
This one is off probably his most popular cd, Illinois...most likely because the song Chicago is featured, which was a major theme in the movie Little Miss Sunshine. That's when I first discovered him anyway.
Give it a listen and check out his other st ... more »

Description: I took this picture at Nonesuch Pond, which is on my old high school's campus. It is a picture of the trees and plants and water that are on the shore of the pond.
Analysis: I love this photograph because all the corners of the picture have something interesting to look at. The tree frames the left side of the picture and draws your eye right into the center and bottom right corner of the photograph.
Interpretation: To me there is not a deep meaning to this photograph. I wanted to take a pretty picture of a pretty place. :)

Description: The first picture is of a tape measure coming out of a vending machine. The second picture is of refrigerator door with measuring tape between the two sections.
Analysis: I did a project on weight consciousness. I placed a tape measure in places where many women start to think about their weight or places where women make decisions about what to eat based on weight.
Interpretation: I wanted people to start to think about body image and how that affects our lives and the decisions we make.

While looking through the New York Times Historical archive I found an interesting article about a village of vegetarian dogs. Who would of thought?

Vegetarian Dogs
New York Times Jan. 23 1927
A village of vegetarian dogs has been started in India, through the munificence of Arjun Lalshet, a wealthy Hindu. He is a member of the sect of Jains, one of whose cardinal principles aims to protect all living creatures. The sect believes that every animate being, from man down to the minutest of insects, has a soul.
Mr. Lalshet hopes by discipline culture to make dogs no longer carnivorous. He has purchased an extensive village, to be inhabited dogs only. These inhabitants are to be fed exclusively on rice and other cereals, milk and butter. Until it is three months old a puppy eats crushed grain mixed with sugar and butter; after that the diet includes wheaten bread with olive oil.
If you want to see the actual article simply:
• Go to the Simmons library page
• Choose the New York Times ... more »
