Homemade Granola

Posted by Katrina Martinez

As a vegan, finding breakfast on the run can be pretty hard. While most people can grab their ham-and-cheese breakfast sandwich, we're stuck with a plain bagel. BORING! The solution: a container of homemade granola you can take anywhere.

Granola is the perfect on-the-go breakfast or snack. The problem is, a lot a store bought granola contains whey (from milk) and/or honey. The good news is, you can make your own batch in no time! And what's better, there are endless possibilities of combinations, so you can personalize every batch. It also makes great, cheap gifts for the holidays.

To start, use a basic granola base. This recipe can be easily halved, doubled, tripled, or whatever you want! For add-ins, try any combination of nuts and dried fruits. My favorite is craisins and chocolate chips.

1 cup rolled oats 2 tbs vegetable oil (I use canola) 2 tbs agave nectar or maple syrup 1/4 cup each of your favorite add-in

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchme ... more »

In A NYY State of Mind ..

Posted by Valerie Simko

So I know I am a little late on the celebration but I finally found the perfect advertisement that captures the TWENTY-SEVENTH World Series victory perfectly.

.. if your a Sox fan I suggest you stop here.

Here it is ...

YankeesChampAd

now I know I am going into unchartered territory with this one but come on, the Yankees are true champs! I'm from NY, so Boston can be satisfied with the fact that I support the Patriots & Bruins, but Yankees baseball has my heart. Along with millions of other fans which is why this ad works. Even though its long winded millions of people who experience those "When"s will appreciate its message. That through all the terrible things we still have the Yankees.

The blurriness of the background focuses the viewer in on the words, though its long they are what make the message. Nike proclaims something that even shocked me, the Yankee symbol "stands for" New York. Sorry Met's fans we have the logo that stands for NY. Hey I didn't say I was unhappily shocked, just ... more »

Hip Hop….The Autotune…

Posted by Ashley Morris

After Jay-Z’s backlash on the autotune takeover of main stream hip hop, Redman announced on Vibe magazine website that he would be using the device for his upcoming alter-ego album, Reggie Noble 9 ½ . I have mixed feelings about the autotune. Snoop Dogg’s “Sensual Seduction” worked, but some of the T-Pain songs floating around now just doesn’t cut it. Redman clarifies to Vibe that the Reggie Noble 9 ½ album is “ not Redman…”, and that his follow up album to 1996’s Muddy Waters a.k.a Muddy Waters II will be out sometime next year, making it less obnoxious that one of my fav lyrical-slamming rappers has decided to pick up the robot-pop-making device.

Trip #6 Egypt

Posted by Noor Hakeem

After arriving to the US, I found out a fascinating fact that I never thought of. Many Americans are very interested in the Arabic language. In fact a lot of the girls with me in the dorms are taking Arabic classes. I also noticed there was a country many talked about and either visited it or wish to visit. This country is Egypt. For this week, I will provide some interesting facts about ancient Egypt and recent egypt. • Cairo, which is the capital, is both the largest city in Africa and the largest city in the Middle East. • Cosmetics were used by Egyptians back from 5,000 years ago, yet it was used for protection from the sunlight not for beauty. • Ancient Egyptians were the first to discover glass and use it • Ancient Egyptians were the first to break down the day into 24 hours and the year into 365 days • The Egyptian people are very well known of their sense of humor and being funny • Cement was first invented in Egypt • Egyptian ancient letters were called hieroglyp ... more »

Gossip Girl 3:9 "They Shoot Humphreys, Don't They?"

Posted by Meghan Doherty

On this weeks episode of Gossip Girl, Serena is given a job as a media relations representative for a young congressman in New York. Although Serena has just graduated from high school this past year and has no public relations experience at all, she seems to get the job with ease. As the viewer we are led to believe that Serena was granted this job due to her rediculous social network and her model good looks. A situation such as this is quite frustrating for those of us who are hoping to emerge in the PR world in the years to come. We are spending thousands of dollars on an education to get us to where Serena is right out of high school. The situation just does not seem fair.

Don't Look At This If You Have A Weak Stomach!

Posted by Julia Devine

Just figured I would post a few pictures about wisdom tooth stuff. Some of it's funny, some of it's gross, and some of it is actually helpful, but seriously don't look at this if you're squeemish!

This is an actual photo X-ray and you can actually see the little arrows pointing at the wisdom teeth. (Neither of them look to be impacted).

wisdom

This is absurd (One way of reducing the swelling I guess you could say!)

wisdom weird

This is what you are going to look like during the procedure!

wisdomtooth

I told you not to look! Fair warning. See how deep the hole is?

gross

Although this does not appear impacted, it's still going to be a bitch to get out and heal. This will definitely leave a mark.

pain

This perfectly shows the nerve. The nerve is very close and sometimes at the root of the wisdom tooth. If your doctor does a crappy job (or the nerve is too close to the wisdom tooth) then you will probably get dry sockets. It is when the nerve is left openly exposed. I had this, wasn't fun.

nerve

This is cute. I am such a dork, ... more »

Fall Running Attire

Posted by Kellie Connolly

As the weather gets colder, a change of attire is required for distance runners braving the cold. Unfortunately, running is semi 'upiddy' in new england, and nice warm running gear can run you a pretty penny. Thats why I signed up to receive weekly emails from a few of my favorite stores. One is City Sports.

Follow this link for the running section of City Sports and $5 flat rate shipping.

Good luck, stay warm!

Ever Tried Jogging with a Dog -- how about a Lazy Dog?

Posted by Kellie Connolly

This past week my best friend and I took her dog for a jog up the beach. The route is only 3.5 miles total, and we were planning on taking it nice and easy. However, when we got there, we could only get "Mr. Cooper" to run at a slow trot, and he only did so for about a half a mile.

After trying everything to get Mr. Cooper to pick up the pace, we settled for a leisurely walk.

So much for our great day of exercise. Mr. Cooper will not be coming on any more jogging trips.

If you are heading home any time soon and have a dog, or have a friend who has a dog, I highly recommend going for a jog with it. A dog a great companion to have on a jog, as they have great stamina and keep your mind off of the agony your body is in!

Date

Posted by Seree Fofana

Description: This is a photograph I took for a project I did this year in my documentary class. The picture is of me dressed up and preparing for a date. In the photograph you can see my laptop, a bottle of liquor, my body, dress, heels, desk and the general atmosphere of my room.

Analysis: There is an indication of gender and the role that gender plays in preparation of a date. I am obviously dressed in heels and a short dress and from my attire you can only assume that my face and hair are made up. It can lead you to imagine what my date will look like or act like. Will my date be a male? Wear pants? Who will pay for our date?

Interpretation: I took this photograph in a series called 100years. This series asks the question, if I were to give my ancestors 100 years from now 10 pictures, what would they say? I took this picture to show my ancestor a little bit about my life. In this picture I was hoping to subtly show that I had a boyfriend by photographing my preparation for our da ... more »
