Trip #5 Republic of Costa Rica

When I was in 9th grade, I participated in a Model United Nations in The Netherlands. The country I was presenting was Costa Rica. While preparing for my presentations, I just searched a lot about the country that I wished to visit it one day. For this week I will be listing for you some fast fascinating facts about Costa Rica, in addition to its basic information. Costa Rica is located in Central America. The capital is San Jose. Thier mother tounge language is Spanish. Costa Rican Colon is the official currency. Some interesting facts about Costa Rica, • It contains 5% of the world's biodiversity of animals and plants • It has a 97% literacy rate • Ranked as the first place in the Happy Family Index • Recorded as the greenest country in the world • Planning to be the first carbon neutral country by 2021 • The translation of ‘Costa Rica’ is ‘rich coast’ • It is the second smallest country in Latin America, yet have the richest culture of them all • Costa Rica ... more »

Trip #6 Egypt

After arriving to the US, I found out a fascinating fact that I never thought of. Many Americans are very interested in the Arabic language. In fact a lot of the girls with me in the dorms are taking Arabic classes. I also noticed there was a country many talked about and either visited it or wish to visit. This country is Egypt. For this week, I will provide some interesting facts about ancient Egypt and recent egypt. • Cairo, which is the capital, is both the largest city in Africa and the largest city in the Middle East. • Cosmetics were used by Egyptians back from 5,000 years ago, yet it was used for protection from the sunlight not for beauty. • Ancient Egyptians were the first to discover glass and use it • Ancient Egyptians were the first to break down the day into 24 hours and the year into 365 days • The Egyptian people are very well known of their sense of humor and being funny • Cement was first invented in Egypt • Egyptian ancient letters were called hieroglyp ... more »

Trip #7 Japan

tokyo city One country that I always wish to visit is Japan. This season in my country, a very popular show was documented in Tokyo, the capital for 31 days in August. After seeing the 31 episodes, my wish of visiting Japan became even more and more wanted. For this week I will list some facts about the country. Short, easy, and interesting just as we all would want it to be. • Japan's national flag is called the Hinomaru. • Mount Fuji is Japan’s tallest mountain. • Japan is the 60th largest country in the world. • Japanese people have rice for their breakfast, lunch, and dinner. • Japan experiences an average of 1500 volcanoes every year. • Sushi (that most of us eat) is a Japanese originated recipe. • It is usually not a choice to give a landlord who sold the house a gift of $1,000-$2000 when a person moves into a new house. • Japanese toilets in all different places have a heating system and a sound system so that the person beside you wouldn’t be annoyed by what you are d ... more »
