Let me premise this post by saying I'm not a very traditional person..
that being said, I have a very memorable first dance planned. I want to start by dancing to a slow song, such as Could I Have This Dance by Anne Murray. Or if I wanted to go more modern, Echo by Incubus. (or anything by Incubus I just love them.) But I digress.. about 30 seconds to a min into the song, have the DJ invite the rest of the bridal party out to the dance floor. We slow dance for about 10 or 20 more seconds and then the DJ pretends to screw up the song and it cuts out. We all look around confused.. the guests are horrified.. then Micheal Jacksons Thriller comes on.. and the entire bridal party busts out into a choreographed version!!

Everyone in my bridal party is so ready to do this... how fantastic! I want this wedding to be fun and memorable and I think it is turning out that way!!

Reason #342 on why I love theknot.com. I can snoop and gather ideas and helpful tips from other brides to be, and just married brides. It is in this way, that I think I have found the perfect flowers for my fall wedding!! I was looking at one of the knotties (thats what we call eachother) formal photos and sent her a message about her flowers. This is what I got back:
Decka - my flowers were all calla lilies. The colors/varieties seem to be really vary in what they are called, but I believe they were either dark "Mango" callas or "Flame" callas. The bridesmaid bouquets were orange and pink/purple mokara orchids and the same orange calla lilies. I think there may have been a few orange roses in there as well.
I have been running with the red/orange/purple theme for a while now and have been thinking about having bridesmaid dresses in some or all of those colors. The first picture is the bride and her bouquet and the second is the bridesmaids bouquets.

If I'm not writing for my comm class, writing a speech for public speaking, writing more of my thesis, writing my final econometrics paper or writing compositions for my Spanish class I am spending time relaxing, and surfing the web for cool wedding ideas.
One day, I came across this:
http://www.stumbleupon.com/s/#1pg4Em/mustardandsage.wordpress.com/2009/0...
The neatest idea that I have found for a guest book yet!! Of course, I'd make a few modifications:
1. This tree seems a little small for 100+ wedding guests to stamp and sign. I'd think about maybe doing more than one. Also, two or three lines are shorter than one and people can file into the reception faster.
2. Because we are having a fall wedding I would definitely switch out the colors for reds, oranges and yellows. Fall leaves and those colors are definitely a recurring theme throughout this planning process.
3. Some may be concerned about having ink on their hands for the rest of the night, but a small box of wipes or the ... more »

Now that you have all seen the dress we loved the most, here is a few more that I tried on that did not make the cut for one reason or another. There are certain things I really like about each of these dress. On some I loved the top, but the bottom was not my style. The red coloring just wasn't me. The last one looks too much like my high school prom dress, it has the same shape of it.
But my mind could change!
Which is your favorite??

Now that you have all scrolled down and looked at the pictures, ready to hear about the day?? :)
Yesterday was the first day I tried on wedding gowns, and it was an unbelievable experience!! I am not used to having people fuss over me at all, so it was a complete out of body experience for me. I loved it!!! I went with Jennie, my maid of honor and best friend for 8 years and Sam, my bridesmaid and good friend of two years. We went to Davids Bridal and I was very impressed with the selection and prices. I will not name our consultant, as I don't have many good things to say about her. She wasn't understanding what we were asking for, and just like the TV show "Say Yes to the Dress" would sneak dresses into our try on pile that were way out of my price range.
In the end, I found one that may be "the one" (pictured below) or at least very close to it. :)

We've been doing a lot of thinking about what type of wedding bands we would like, maybe more than most couples. Dan is a very specific person and he's knows what he likes. He also the type to first exhaust all options before making a decision. He has decided that he wants diamonds in his. Black diamonds of course, that's much more manly. He hasn't decided on a particular style but below are some pictures of rings he's been looking at:

All very different rings.. but you can seem the theme. I personally like the first one the best.
I on the other had, am the most indecisive person there is when it comes to myself. (Thus my double major, I can't pick just one!) I have no problem making decisions for others or seeing what they're best choice would be... but when it comes to myself I can never make up my mind. I can't decide if I want a five stone wedding band, or just a band with small diamonds so as to keep the focus on my engagement ring. Here is a picture of my engagement ring now: ... more »

The biggest thing to decide on, I think, when beginning to plan a wedding, is a theme or style. This decision dictates how everything else will look and be like. Having during the day presents a less formal wedding than if you have an afternoon or evening ceremony. This simple decision of what time of day your going to have it then reflects the formality of the entire wedding. How formal the invites are, what attire the guests wear, what type of dinner they'll be served and even how your own dress looks. The four seasons can also provide a great theme or backdrop. Knowing your budget is key in deciding on a theme or style of wedding you plan on having.
I had always thought of myself as a fall bride but when I brought this up to my mom she didn't seem to agree. "That's when kids will be going back to school, it's a hectic time, it's hard for Dan to get time off from work in the fall, your birthday and Christmas are right around the corner that's a lot to put on him at once.." et cetera ... more »

Sunday was oh so much fun! My fiance Dan and I attended the Bridal Festival at Fenway Park. The rain didn't put a damper on our day! We went out to breakfast together, one of our favorites things to do together on our Sundays. (I call them our Sundays, because even though we live together, we NEVER see each other. Dan works 6 days a week, every week, and I'm running around between Salem and Boston balancing school and work. Sunday is our only day together.) After breakfast we drove into Boston and parked right off of Yawkey Way.
There were bands performing in the state street pavilion and tables set up to reflect different themes. Dans favorite table:

From there we went to check out the vendors and ran into Wally!

The vendors were great but it was really intense. Among the vendors were photographers, videographers, hotels that host weddings, ring cleaners, cake decorators, bands, DJs, photobooths and more! I was able to get many brochures, quotes and most importantly: ideas!

One of the first things we did together was compile a guest list. It wasn't very difficult, as both our families are relatively small. Compiling the guest list seemed to be a good way to start because that dictates a lot of things. Having a ball park range of people gives us the ability to estimate costs. We'll know exactly how to budget for dinner, how many save the dates we'll need, how many invitations, how many favors etc. Having an estimate of how many people will come also allows us to narrow down our reception venue. Some places require a minimum, and some have a maximum.
As you can see, lots of good things coming from compiling a guest list. But this was also the source of our first disagreement. I knew we would have them, it's inevitable. But this soon? Oi vey. The source of the argument was whether or not we wanted to invite children to our wedding. I did not want to I thought ages 15+ was appropriate, he wouldn't have it any other way.
I had many points to my argument:

Planning a wedding is a very love/hate relationship. There are so many components that go into it, it could make your head spin. The first thing I would recommend to any bride to be is to pick up a wedding planner. (I'm too independent and cheap to hirer a wedding consultant, and this is the next best thing.) I LOVE my planner. It is divided into sections, such as ceremony, photography and attire. Each section has pocket folders to keep brochures and papers organized in. In addition, each section has a checklist and a chart with questions to ask. You fill in the chart to compare vendors. The questions are the best part!! Things you would never think to ask vendors but after reading think to yourself "that is a must!" For example under the photographers chart: "do you bring back up equipment with you?" "Do you visit the ceremony site prior to the wedding?" and "what is your cancellation policy?" This book also tells you exactly what you should expect to pay for everything, from your dre ... more »
