The City-Wide Dialogues on Ethnic & Racial Diversity comes to Simmons

Sponsored by Technology at Simmons College

City-Wide Dialogues brings Bostonians together in honest yet respectful, multi-session dialogue groups of racially or ethnically diverse residents and two co-facilitators. The result is decreased stereotypes, increased understanding and trust, as well as friendships across old barriers.

City-Wide Dialogues provide an opportunity to:

  • ENGAGE fellow members of the Simmons Community in HONEST but respectfuldialogue on LIVING + WORKING together, plus inclusion, safety,gentrification issues, etc.
  • REDUCE stereotyping --- BUILD NEW TRUST + FRIENDSHIPS
  • HEAL old divisions through the power of open communication.

Two trained facilitators will lead the dialogue and participants should plan to attend all four meetings.

Dates: September 26, October 3, 10, and 17 from 5:00 - 7:00pm in Main Campus L-004

Participation is free. Advanced registration required. Seats are limited.
A light dinner and refreshments will be available for registered participants.

Technology Lunch & Learn: Susannah Sirkin

Susannah Sirkin, Physicians for Human Rights’ Deputy Director for International Policy, will speak at the next Technology Diversity Team Lunch and Learn on Friday, September 28th, from 12:30-2:00pm in the Special Functions Room.

Susannah will speak about the importance of human rights work, the work of PHR, and their role in the issue of immigration and asylum. Physicians for Human Rights (PHR), the Co-Recipient of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize for the International Campaign to Ban Land Mines, is a national organization that mobilizes health professionals to advance the health and dignity of all people through action that promotes respect for, protection of and fulfillment of human rights. Ms. Sirkin has held the position of Deputy Director since 1987 when she joined the organization's staff shortly after its founding. Previously, she was Director of Membership Programs for Amnesty International USA. Ms. Sirkin also served from 1992-2001 for PHR as a member of the Coordination Committee of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, the co-recipient of the 1997 Nobel Prize for Peace. PHR is one of the six original non-governmental organizations that initiated the International Campaign to Ban Landmines in 1992.

On October 16, 2007 from 12:30pm to 2:00pm, Michael P. Melendez, PH.D., new chair of the Diversity Council (TDC), will be presenting on the mission of TDC, goals outlined for the upcoming year and highlight grants awarded for the academic year 2007-2008. He looks forward to engaging in an open dialogue with Technology staff regarding their experiences, concerns and suggestions for the TDC.
