In an age where most people my age can't miss the latest episode of "Gossip Girls," "One Tree Hill," or the trainwreck that is the new, "90210," the shows I watch go by fairly unnoticed. Two of my favorite shows on television at the moment are, "Friday Night Lights," the critics darling, often referred to as, "the Little Engine that Could." My other favorite is, "The Closer," starring Kyra Sedgewick.
These two shows are greatly entertaining, and what's more important, very well made. Friday Night Lights caught my eye at first because of the style of camera work they use, rarely seen on television- documentary style. There are always about three cameras on the actors at all times. It is exactly this that often draws criticism from viewers, but it is exactly why I love the show so much. It's an extremely raw look at the fictional Texas town of Dillon. It doesn't sugar coat it like oh, I don't know...Gossip Girl. What you see through the cameras on this show looks excatly like what you ... more »

When I first saw the previews for this star studded movie months back, I'll admit... I wasn't a fan. I was like, "Oh, great, another movie where every funny line is in the commercial, along with the plot."
So I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw "He's Just Not That Into You" the day it came out. Yeah, the day it came out. Maybe I did go and buy my tickets at 11:30 AM that day for the 7:30 showing. I bet those people in a line two miles long waiting to get in weren't laughing at me then.
One of my friends and I had been planning to go see "HJNTIY" for a good month before it came out because it hit a little too close to home.
I was surprised by how quickly the tickets sold out to all showings, and the lines of people waiting to get in to see the movie on opening day. I guess a lot of people see themselves in the movie.
My favorite was when I was standing around and someone near me said to her friend, "Oh. my. GOD. This is like, my life!" Um, you are here with your boy ... more »

With the 81st annual Academy Awards less than two weeks away, I thought I’d offer my two cents on this year’s performances. More specifically, my personal favorite category of best picture.
Although the Academy Awards is definitely the most painful awards show to sit through, I have to watch it every year. The Golden Globes are my favorite award show because they are more upbeat and a little more relaxed.
Having only seen two of the films nominated in my favorite category of best picture this year, I can’t comment too much on the category as a whole. The two movies I saw in theaters over winter break were, “Slumdog Millionare,” and “Milk.” I would have liked to see “Frost/Nixon,” but it was not playing anywhere near me at the time and, to be truthful, it looked pretty dull.
I would like to take this time to thank the academy for not nominating, “Revolutionary Road for best picture. That movie was beyond painful to sit through. Trust me. Acting? Good. Plot/the dis ... more »

If you watch television at all, you have no doubt seen the ads for the new "movie" (if you can call it that,) "Fired Up," coming out this Friday. This movie is the quintessential bad teen/college movie. From what I can tell, it is about two football players who go to cheerleading camp. It also seems that these cheerleaders make cheers out of everything.
It’s not easy for me to admit this, but every single time I see that commercial, I burst out laughing. And most of the time I’m alone. I HATE these types of movies, I think they are such a waste of time and money but I would see this movie just to see one of the lines. I just think this line is one of the funniest things I have ever heard and I’m so embarrassed by it:
Football player 1: “I think our bus crashed and we’re in heaven.”
Football Player 2: “No. We would’ve heard, ‘We. Are. Crashing. We. We. Are. Crashing.”
This scene replays in my head all day and every time it does, I burst out laughing. In public. Ever ... more »
