The Biggest Loser

Posted by Caley Lynch

I found a new obsession this season on television. The Biggest Loser on NBC. I have seen commercials for this show for years, as it is now on its 7th season I believe. I always thought it looked dumb, but over winter break, I fell in love.

I started watching it one night while I was flipping through the 16 channels I get at home (thanks, Mom,) on the treadmill. American Idol hadn't started yet, and neither had Dancing with the Stars. Nothing good was on on Tuesdays! I stopped at NBC thinking, "This is good motivation while I am on the treadmill." Is it ever!

Let's just say I stayed on the treadmill for the full TWO HOURS that it was on. For anyone who knows me, that is quite the accomplishment. First of all, I despise treadmills. I hate working out indoors- especially on treadmills. But, it was cold out that day and it was night and I wanted to exercise. Not to mention the fact that I can't run for very long at a time! Nothing keeps you going like watching trainer Jillian on the show ... more »

Natasha Richardson, Tribute to a lovely actress

Posted by Caley Lynch

I feel compelled to acknowledge the sudden and tragic loss of Natasha Richardson. I would like to pay a short tribute to a wonderful actress, both in film and on Broadway.

I would like to talk not about the tragic way in which she passed away or the events surrounding that, but instead about her work and life.

Natasha Richardson was the daughter of legendary Oscar winner Vanessa Redgrave and British director Tony Richardson. Joely Richardson is her sister. She married equally talented British actor Liam Neeson in 1994. The couple have two young teenage sons together.

Natasha receieved the Tony Award in 1998 for her portrayal of Sally Bowles on Broadway's, "Cabaret."

Many of you might recognize her as the mother to Lindsay Lohan's twin characters in the 90's remake of "The Parent Trap." This movie was and still is one of my all time favorite movies, and I actually watched it just a few weeks ago. I was reminded when I watched it how beautiful and poised Natasha Richardson is.

Dancing with Steve Wozniak

Posted by Caley Lynch

For the first time in I can't remember how many years, I am not watching American Idol. I was always too busy when it was first starting out this season, and I'm just not feeling it this year. When I was in high school, my mom, sister and I would gather in the living room each Tuesday and Wednesday night and watch it. We were SO into it and it was really fun. Of course I was the only one who was actually responsible enough to vote out of the three of us...

This year has been really disappointing, although I really love the addition of new judge Kara Dioguardi, which I know people have been talking about. The fact is, this woman can a) really sing and b) is an amazingly talented songwriter who has produced hits for music’s biggest names (Hilary Duff, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Enrique Iglesias, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Pink, Faith Hill) She knows what she’s talking about and I like that she stands up to Simon.

I have switched to Dancing with the Stars. I did not watc ... more »

Shows you should be watching!

Posted by Caley Lynch

I love the underdog shows. Much too often, there are really well made shows that struggle to stay on the air because of low audience numbers. Friday Night Lights and Las Vegas are two great examples of this. Friday Night Lights, thankfully, is still on the air- for now. Unfortunately, Las Vegas was the first casualty of the writer’s strike during the 2007-2008 television season.

Two shows that I highly recommend watching are, “How I Met Your Mother,” and “Rules of Engagement,” both on CBS’s Monday lineup. HIMYM is on at 8:30, and ROE is on at 9:30. Two and a Half Men is in between. You can skip that one.

HIMYM has been on the air since 2005, and yet many people do not know about it. I actually didn’t start watching it until a season or two ago. The show is described as a “love story in reverse.” It is set in New York City and centers around a group of five friends in their late twenties. It reminds me a bit of Friends actually- one of my all time top favorite shows. ... more »
