The first of the three bands that have really influenced what I listen to, and in a way, who I am, is Rancid. Rancid is a punk band that began in the early 90s. I've seen them play four times, and each time they blow my mind. Before I heard of Rancid, I was listening to bad pop-punk and pop. When I first heard Rancid my freshman year of high school, I was blown away. The first song that i heard by them was "Bloodclot". I hadn't heard music like it before, but I looked for more, and got into many of the bands that I am in to today.

The second band that really influenced me was Against Me!. Against Me! changed my musical preferences once again, turning me towards their energetic sound. Their newer music is more rock than it used to be, but they still fit into that broad "punk" genre. After hearing Against Me! I started looking for more bands that fit sounded like them.

During this search for more music, I came across Defiance, Ohio. This band changed it all for me. Defiance ... more »

Since this is a music blog, it is the perfect place to confess my absolute LOVE for Lady Gaga!
I have a soft spot for female pop artists such as Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga, Fergie, Gwen Stefani, etc. I even listen to Britney Spears on occasion (let's face it, her new single "3" is CATCHY).
Her music is so catchy and she's a unique artist. She has bold fashion, and she's had some of the biggest hits this year.
Her newest song that just leaked, Dance In The Dark, is absolutely amazing. It's been on repeat on my Itunes ever since I got my hands on a copy of it.
The Fame is such a great album. I just recently bought it, only having a few singles from it previously. I LOVE IT! Every song on the album is catchy, her voice is so talented, and all the songs are instant favorites. I can't wait for her next album to come out (THIS MONTH!)

Brand New is one of my favorite bands of all time. They've changed their sound dramatically in the past few years since they first came out with "Your Favorite Weapon", which was basically pop punk. They've maintained their angst, but have changed the way that they express it.

Their sophomore album, "Deja Entendu" defined my high school years. It was mind blowing to me when it first came out. The album could be defined as screamo, although it didn't quite fit into a genre, much like their two albums that would come out afterwards.

Their third album, "The Devil and God are Raging Inside of Me" was also a fantastic album. Many bands lose their momentum and start sounding the same, or getting more poppy as they make more music, but Brand New took it in a different direction that once again does not fit neatly into a genre. I guess Jessie Lacey's mental breakdown did wonders for their musical direction and content.

Their most recent album "Daisy", is absolutely amazing. I really lo ... more »

Starting out with the track "I've Got Hurt Feelings", I Told You I Was Freaky starts off with a bang, with New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo rapping away. The album continues to be hilarious, with the mildly inappropriate "Sugar Lumps". Continuing down the track list to track 7, my favorite track on the album "Fashion is Danger" is just a riot. "You Don't Have to be a Prostitute" and "Friends" are also close contenders for my favorite song on the album. The album concludes on a strong note with "Angels".
I really enjoyed this album, and it was worth the 4.99 I paid for it on Amazon.com's mp3 download section. I bought it the day it came out and it's been on repeat ever since. I haven't seen the majority of season 2, but now I definitely want to! The songs that I did see on the few episodes that I watched were even funnier since I knew the context, but the ones that I hadn't heard before were still funny standing alone. ... more »
