Hello out there!
I'm so glad Friday returns to us week after week. Have you ever thought about how awful it would be if it decided to never come back?
Ha.
Anyway, I was looking through my library, and came across a band I used to ADORE sophomore year in high school. They're like super indie, so if you don't have an open mind you may not dig.
The song of the day is Branches, by Midlake. Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iU6q2fofZRo
These guys are from Denton, Texas. Yeehawwww.
I don't really know what to tell you about this tune. It was my favorite of theirs back when I listened to them all the time. It's kindof sweet. It's kindof sad. Hope you like it.
Until next time.

Hi everyone.
Mondays are the worst. My 9 a.m. did everything it could to start my day off the wrong way. I can only hope things will get better as the hours pass.
So I thought it would be appropriate if the song of the day was Gimme Sympathy, by Metric. Because honestly, that's all I'm looking for.
Also, it's a fabulous song off their new album Fantasies, that I am PRAYING they will debut at their show friday night. (House of Blues $20). Sure to be a good time.

I hope you enjoy, and are having a better day than I am.
Until next time.

Buon Giorno!
I hope everyone had a quick lax week. I don't know about you, but the whole wednesday off thing really worked for me.
Anyway.
As I was engaged in italian this morning, sucking up everything my professor said like a sponge (ha), I could not get this one song out of my head. I don't know why...I actually haven't listened to this album in quite some time. But the entire cd is absolutely fantastic and this song is pure poetry. Seriously.
It's called The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is out to Get Us by Sufjan Stevens. No joke, that is the title. This little genius likes to come up with super complicated complex titles for most of his songs. It's great in my opinion.
Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRW2g2l49fk
This one is off probably his most popular cd, Illinois...most likely because the song Chicago is featured, which was a major theme in the movie Little Miss Sunshine. That's when I first discovered him anyway.
Give it a listen and check out his other st ... more »

Happy Friday Everyone!
This was a pretty quick week in my book. I don't know if it's because it was such a stressful one or what...but it definitely flew by. Friday feels pretty well deserved.
The song of the day is Friday Night (excuse the cheese) by G. Love and Special Sauce. Here's a link: http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/search/?query=friday%20night%20g.%20love
I don't know how familiar you all are with G. Love, but he and his crew are simply...saucy. Ha. Really though. This song is off my all time FAVORITE album by them, Philadelphonic. It features a lot of that badass harmonica, and is the bridge between their bluesiness, and their funky hip hop stuff.
I here they put on one hell of a show too. I have yet to see them, but my sister did last year and said they just didn't want to get off the stage. I think that's when you know musicians are passionate about their music- when they just want to play all night.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy! Have fun and be safe tonight.
Until next tim ... more »

Happy Halloween Everyone!
The song of the evening is Harpua, by Phish. Here's a link:
http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/search/?query=harpua%20p
I don't even have a comment on this one. It's a crazy song, it's a long song, and it tells a Halloween story! But before it gets into that, it's real funky and they sing about Harpua...whatever that is. Have a fun time tonight everyone!
Until next time.

Hello!
Happy Hump Day, hope everyone is staying dry. The weather is perfectly miserable out. But lucky for you all, I have a song that will get you through the dreariness.
The song of the day is Reckoner, by Radiohead. Here's a link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmNG2D81x3Y
This song is off their latest Grammy Award winning album, In Rainbows. The entire cd is phenomenal, but this song makes me melt every time. Hauntingly beautiful.
Any Muse fans out there? It is OBVIOUS Matthew Bellamy listened to a ton of Radiohead when he was mastering his sound. And I don't blame him! Radiohead is damn inspiring if you ask me.
Anyway, enjoy Reckoner. I know I say this everytime, but it really is one of my favorites.
Until next time.

Happy Friday!
I woke up feeling good about the past week and upcoming weekend. Hopefully you're feeling somewhat similar?
The song of the day is The Exectuion of All Things, by Rilo Kiley. Here's a link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pZBwb1N2Fc
Ahhh Jenny Lewis. She's simply the perfect person. This song will certainly be a great one to crank in your room when you're kicking it after class.
This is easily one of the best songs Rilo Kiley has created. Unfortunately, last time I saw them they did not perform it. Better luck next time.
If you don't know this song, don't pass it up. And if you don't know this band, get to work! They're really a crowd pleaser. You can't not like Rilo Kiley.
Until next time.

Good morning everyone.
Today is October 16th. It is gray and rainy with a high of 38 degrees. There are roomers that snow fell in the city last night. The weather is certainly taking away from the exciting fact that it is indeed friday.
How about a tune to match this mood?
The song of the day is Alaska, by Dr. Dog. Here's a link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4FDy10LXTA
These Philidelphia natives are an indie sensation, with music packed full of impressive harmonies and raw, inspiring lyrics.
Alaska is one of my favorite songs from the album, "We All Belong."
Give it a listen. Especially on a day like today, you'll think to yourself, "wow, I know exactly how they feel."
Until next time.

Hello everyone,
It is an absolutely beautiful fall day. A little chilly sure, but the sun is shining! What better than to stick those headphones in and add an underscore to your afternoon?
The song of the day is Beautful Beat, by Nada Surf. Here's a link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CoOI0zdJms
This classic indie band does nothing but create smiles, and lead singer Matthew Caws' voice is the definition of sweet. Find time in your day to listen to this one...you won't regret it!
Until next time.

Why hello.
The "Single in the City" idea was an epic failure.
Everytime I sat down to try and write a second entry, I realized I didn't know what to write. Who am I to assume that people want to read about how I spend my time on the weekends? Haha oh well. I told you I was new to the blog thing.
Anyway. Here's take two:
Like millions of others in the world, I happen to be completely taken with music.
So how about a song of the day?
I'll give you a song that I think suits the day and why. Short and sweet, but hopefully enjoyable.
Today, Saturday, October 10, 2009 is most definitely a day for Baby Britain, by Elliott Smith.
If you have it the song, here's a link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgPVRKp5Ucw
It's got a feel good sound, with words that probably describe alot of people you met last night. Find the time to listen to this tune today and you won't be sorry. It'll keep you groovin from dawn 'til dusk.
Until next time.
