Community Engagement Associate

Footsteps is the go-to address for any individual who has left -- or is contemplating leaving -- an ultra-Orthodox Jewish community. We provide crucial peer and professional resources and support as people embrace the challenge to redefine their identities, build new communities and establish self-determined lives. Footsteps nurtures a network of individuals so that they not only survive in their new world, but thrive. Since Footsteps' founding in 2003, the organization has served over 1,000 individuals. As the organization has grown to meet increasing demand for services, the staff has expanded from four to eight employees in the past two years, and for the first time, the organization's budget is over $1 million in 2015.

Community Engagement Associate

The Community Engagement Associate will play a key role in the development of Footsteps' new community engagement unit. This person will work closely with the Director of Community Engagement in building a network of those who have already made the transition out of ultra-Orthodoxy and are looking to be involved with Footsteps. The Community Engagement Associate will coordinate large social events, nurture Footsteps' online presence, and assist in implementing leadership development programs. She/he/they will also support new engagement initiatives as they arise.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Serve as point of contact for members who have moved beyond the initial stages of transition, and assist in developing and implementing respectful outreach efforts to potential Footsteps members
  • Conduct initial interviews for those who have already transitioned out of ultra-Orthodoxy and are interested in becoming Footsteps members
  • Provide program development and logistical support for large social and community events (i.e.: the Footsteps Camping Trip, Art Shows and the Winter party), meal hosting, and public education programs
  • Coordinate member communications internally and on social media, and assist with writing and storytelling on behalf of Footsteps members
  • Provide logistical support to leadership programs, including our Peer Mentoring program and our Membership Advisory Council, micro-grants, a speakers' bureau, etc.
  • Assisting in developing new leadership and engagement initiatives including distance support and other grassroots efforts
  • Ensure documentation of work with members and other stakeholders
  • Provide administrative support in additional areas as needed
