Bilingual Social Worker/Case Manager: Community Based Shelter Program

Summary of the Position: The Bilingual Social Worker/Case Manager at Family Aid Boston provides supportive services to homeless families participating in a state-funded shelter program, in a model that includes both scattered site apartments and co-shelter units. In this role, he or she works with families to understand and address barriers to family stability and to transition to permanent housing within defined time periods. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide assessment of stabilization and housing needs, and develop plan to best meet housing and family stabilization goals. 
  • Provide home visits to support family, monitor property, and implement plan.
  • Develop understanding of strengths and limitations of families served. 
  • Advocate with client to establish highest level of residential and life stability.
  • Lead or co-facilitate groups. 
  • Serve as liaison to schools, medical providers and others to assure best level of community integration.
  • Provide family intervention to identify and assist family with problem solving, crisis intervention and other needs. Conduct family meetings as needed. 
  • Provide full case management to maximize eventual stability in permanent housing. Develop plans according to contract expectations. 
  • Provide office coverage at CoShelter site.
  • Participate in all staff, team and clinical meetings. Maintain clear, non-judgmental documentation in clients' files.
  • Participate in supervision and professional development as determined in performance evaluations. 
  • Assume other responsibilities as requested by supervisory staff

Qualification:

  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) capacity required
  • BA with experience in social services, MSW preferred. 
  • Valid MA Drivers License
  • Ability to work in office and field based settings with a diverse, homeless population. 
  • Flexibility and compassion essential.
