MSM Outreach Specialist

The specialist at AIDS Action Committee of MA is responsible for conducting prevention outreach targeted at high risk HIV positive and negative gay and bisexual men and transgender persons. This includes street, bar outreach as well as outreach through various media platforms. This position also conducts risk assessment, risk reduction counseling and HIV/STI and hepatitis C screenings. 

1. Provide Direct Services
• Design and conduct media outreach strategies across digital platforms to reach the target population. Ensure the various media platforms meet both client and program needs, align with the brand strategy platform and meet program standards. 
• Conduct in-reach and outreach (e.g. bars, nightclubs, public sex environments, Pride events, private social events, other public settings, etc.) to find and engage target population. Provide risk reduction counseling, distribute supplies (condoms, lube, etc.) and refer to services. 
• Provide referrals to AAC's and Fenway Health's services as well as other community resources. 
• Conduct HIV/HCV/STI on and offsite screening, performing phlebotomy, and risk reduction assessments and counseling sessions. 
• Provide education about and linkage to PrEP, nPEP and Disease Intervention Specialists. 
• Provide extended or multi-session counseling sessions for HIV-positive and high-risk HIV-negative clients when appropriate, including through the use of evidence-based interventions such as ARTAS and Personal Cognitive Counseling. 
• Facilitate group and community level interventions. 

2. Effectively Carry out Administrative Duties
• Complete appropriate and accurate documentation in a timely manner.
• Attend staff, department meetings and individual and clinical supervision as required.
• Collaborate with internal and external colleagues performing related work.
• Attend trainings and supervision provided by MDPH/OHA and MDPH Division of STDs and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as required.

3. Participate in Planning and Implementation of New Interventions
• Participate in program planning through interdisciplinary team meetings.
• Collaborate with clinical departments to coordinate referrals. 
• Attend continuing education seminars, staff in-services and stay abreast of relevant literature to maintain familiarity with trends in prevention services.

4. Meet Agency Participatory Expectations
• As required, work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, as needed to provide services and perform outreach in ways that best reach at-risk communities.
• Adhere to all agency and departmental policies and procedures.
• Participate in quality assessment and improvement activities as requested.
• Adhere to the highest principles of client confidentiality.
• Adhere to established safety policies, procedures and precautions; identifies potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and takes measures to rectify the situation.
• Attend all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings.
• Maintain professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintain and provide agency with records of continuing education activities.
• Serve on agency committees and in professional organizations when requested.

5. Perform related duties as required


• Minimum Bachelor's degree and two years of work experience.
• Expertise using various digital, social media and web-based platforms. 
• Phlebotomy certification/experience or a willingness to be trained in phlebotomy
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong ability to manage clinically and emotionally challenging situations with utmost professionalism, care and discretion.
• Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals and communities at risk for HIV specifically men who have sex with men and transgender persons. 
• Ability to provide precise, well-written documentation.
• Experience providing HIV education, testing and counseling a plus.
• Demonstrated computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.)
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize assigned duties.
• Ability to work independently and in small groups.
• Experience working in an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse environment preferred.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work within a team-based environment.
• Strong interest in LGBT health
