Unit Therapist

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide ongoing assessment, individual treatment planning, and group therapy to sex offenders in assigned unit.

  • Develop and teach psychoeducational classes.

  • Maintain up-to-date treatment files including preparation of group notes.

  • Prepare status reports and treatment contracts/plans and other required reports.

  • Attend unit meetings, team meetings, in-service trainings, and supervisory meetings.

  • Coordinate services with DOC personnel. 

  • Complete interagency reports. 

  • Comply with all Department of Correction policies and procedures. 

  • Excellent command of the English language and communication skills to include verbal, listening, written and comprehension


  • Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or a closely related field

  • License or registration with the appropriate Board of Registration, or license-eligible.

Facility Information

The Massachusetts Treatment Center is a medium-security prison located within the Bridgewater Correctional Complex and is a unique facility due to having a population of civilly committed Sexually Dangerous Persons as well as state prison inmates identified as sexual offenders. Each population is located within separate areas of the facility. The facility houses approximately 600 individuals with about 300 state inmates and about 300 civil residents. The civil commitment process is determined by Massachusetts General Law Chapter 123A. The Mission of the Massachusetts Treatment Center is to promote public safety through the responsible management of criminal and civil commitments while providing a comprehensive and effective sex offender treatment program.
