Director of Private Social Work Services

CPCS is seeking its first Director of Private Social Work Services to improve legal representation of indigent clients facing criminal and mental health cases. CPCS provides legal services to indigent clients by a combination of private attorneys trained and certified to accept assignments and staff attorneys. Assigned private counsel attorneys represent 80% of indigent clients in Massachusetts, and hire private social workers who are an integral part of the defense team through the Indigent Court Costs Act.

The Director of Private Social Work Services will be responsible for creating, developing, and overseeing the system of private Social Workers for criminal and mental health cases. Among other duties, the Director will recruit, vet, train, and support the Social Workers and educate attorneys on the benefits and proper use of Social Workers in their court appointed work.
