Clinical Social Worker (Therapist)

We are looking for highly motivated individuals to provide therapy for survivors of torture and war trauma with mental health issues related to trauma and the psychosocial stressors of refugee resettlement and forced acculturation. A major component of this position is providing support for asylum seekers through the asylum process as well as writing affidavits and providing testimony when appropriate (as determined by clinician and attorney). Candidate must be comfortable in service delivery in medically based outpatient setting.

Candidates must have the ability to provide mental health assessments, create and manage individual treatment plans and write mental health forensic evaluations in support of asylum claims as needed as well as do crisis interventions. This position requires someone with strong cultural skills and the ability to work with a collaborative, interdisciplinary team and an ability to maintain a trauma informed care delivery perspective. This position requires a high degree of flexibility and the willingness to provide case coordination as needed as well as be engaged in grant reporting.

  • Provide bio-psychosocial case management for BCRHHR patients (medical and social case management).
  • Provides  therapy  and counseling, psychiatric evaluations and referrals for medical management as needed
  • Provide crisis intervention and assessment in outpatient and primary care setting.
  • Perform patients' needs assessment and perform social service intake of all new patients.
  • Develop a flexible plan and link patients to services at BMC, BCRHHR and area agencies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community resources to ensure access to services.
  • Serve as a liaison between the resettlement agencies, BCRHHR, clinical departments at BMC, the legal community, and resettlement agencies to ensure appropriate care is being given to the patient.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary staff/team meetings.
  • Work closely with Interpreter Services to ensure support exists for patients that require it.
  • Assesses patient and family to ascertain those emotional and social problems, and identifies those issues which must be which must be addressed during the patient's care, and formulates plan.
  • Provides crisis intervention, intake assessments, and evaluation of walk-in clients.
  • Consults to and collaborates with BCRHHR staff and collaborating agencies to insure that patient's emotional and social needs are addressed.
  • Completes psychological affidavits for individuals seeking asylum. Maintains a complete understanding of emergency procedures.
  • Performs intake assessments on new referrals.
  • Performs emergency assessments as clinically indicated.
  • Updates treatment plans quarterly.
  • Maintain detailed case files, collecting, summarizing information for required reports.  Prepare and write reports as required.
  • Consistently uses clear, concise and effective written and oral communication and complies with departmental, hospital, state and federal policies when documenting and sharing patient care information.
  • Complies with departmental, regulatory and professional requirements for documentation recording and data collection.  Submits department statistics and other records and reports within required time frames.
  • Participate in clinical conferences, team and other meetings as assigned. Attends scheduled staff meetings and in-service education program offerings with punctuality and consistency.
  • Participate in training sessions.
  • Assists management in the operation of a quality department by participating in department programs and complying with department policies and procedures.
  • Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, so that the best possible customer service and patient care may be provided.
  • Utilizes hospital's Values as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the division's hospital mission.
  • Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
