Volunteer Opportunity: Sexual Health Counseling & Referral Hotline

Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) is currently recruiting for volunteer counselors with our Sexual Health Counseling & Referral Hotline.  We offer an exceptional opportunity to educate and counsel individuals in substantive and meaningful ways, while becoming part of a community of like-minded advocates of reproductive freedom.

Since 1974, the Counseling & Referral Hotline has relied on a dedicated group of well-trained volunteer counselors to answer calls from Massachusetts and around the country and discuss a wide range of sexual and reproductive health issues. Our counselors answer about 1200 calls a month, offering accurate information and the support necessary to make personal and private decisions, along with referrals to other trusted service providers. We respond to questions about birth control, emergency contraception, sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy testing, pregnancy options, gender-affirming hormone therapy, abortion services, sexual health, and sexuality. Current counselors range in age from 20-85; they are lifelong reproductive rights activists, experienced professionals of all kinds, new graduates, and retirees. Currently, PPLM is the only Planned Parenthood affiliate to offer a hotline service.

The hotline is staffed Monday - Friday from 9 am-5 pm; shifts are 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., 12 - 3 p.m., and 3-5 p.m. Training for new volunteers will occur in April and May and involves 42 hours of "classroom" time.
