Graduate-Level Summer Training Positions- Judge Baker Children's Center

Camp Baker at Judge Baker Children's Center (JBCC) is pleased to announce positions for summer 2020.

Camp Baker is based off of the Summer Treatment Program (STP), which was named a Model Program for Service Delivery for Child and Family Mental Health by the Section on Clinical Child Psychology and Division of Child, Youth, and Family Services of the American Psychological Association. The STP has also been used in clinical trials and has been named a program of the year by CHADD, the national parent advocacy group for children with ADHD. The STP has been listed in SAMHSA's National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices. The STP at Camp Baker provides services to children ages 6-12 years old with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), learning problems, and related mood, emotional, and behavior problems. The program provides treatment tailored to children's individual behavioral, social emotional and learning difficulties. Counselors will provide positive reinforcement, teach social skills, and facilitate problem-solving discussions. All counselors are responsible for recording and entering behavioral data, developing individualized treatment goals and monitoring progress towards goals.

Camp Baker is a six-week program located at Hale Reservation in Westwood, MA. Bus transportation is provided for staff from Judge Baker Children's Center in Boston, MA. The dates of employment for all positions are Monday, July 1, 2020 through Friday, August 14, 2020 (staff will get the July 4th holiday off). All staff are required to attend a week-long training the week before camp begins. Staff hours of employment are 7:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. In addition, all staff continue to work with the children until 6:00pm one evening each week while parents participate in weekly parent training groups.

This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in psychology, education, child development, or other service-related fields. The selection process is competitive; thus, interested students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. We are looking for intelligent, dedicated people who not only have experience working with children but are eager to learn and take advantage of this training opportunity.

Interested candidates will need the following:

  • A cover letter describing your professional development goals and how Camp Baker might fit in with those goals
  • A current CV
  • A de-identified assessment report, treatment report, or other psychology-related writing sample (A writing sample can be anything you have already written that you feel is a good example of your writing ability. This can be any type of writing and there is no page limit or other specific parameters.)
  • The name and contact of your practicum coordinator (for applicants looking to gain practicum or academic credit)
  • Three letters of recommendation sent to Dr. Tannenbaum from the recommender directly through the website

Applications for Camp Baker positions will be accepted beginning in January 2020. There is no cutoff date for applying. Applications received after all positions have been filled will be placed on a waiting list. Only completed applications will be considered. Positions are competitive so interested individuals should apply as soon as possible.

Once a complete application is submitted including all three letters of recommendation, the Camp Baker team will review the application and be in touch via email regarding initial interviews. Once offered an initial interview, applicants will select  an interview time using our scheduling software and will participate in a 1 hour video interview with a Camp Baker staff member. After this phase, the interview and the application will be reviewed by the Camp Baker team and those in consideration will be offered a second video interview with the Associate Director. After the second interview is complete, applicants will be notified of their application status.
