Boston Children's Hospital: Post-Masters Pediatric Oncology Clinical Social Work Fellowship

The Pediatric Clinical Social Work Fellowship in the Division of Pediatric Psychosocial Oncology at The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a unique opportunity for a Masters Prepared Clinical Social Worker seeking advanced clinical training in pediatric psychosocial oncology. As an integral member of an interdisciplinary care team, the Social Work Fellow will receive training to provide psychosocial care to child and adolescent patients and their families from diagnosis through treatment. The Social Work Fellow will be providing psychosocial care for patients and families who are receiving ambulatory care at DFCI's Jimmy Fund Clinic as well as having the opportunity of providing continuity of care inpatient at Boston Children's Hospital. This is a full time, 40-hour, 5 day a week position.

In this clinically focused fellowship, the Social Work Fellow will gain skills in child and adolescent counseling in a medical setting. The Social Work Fellow will gain knowledge in and provide a range of psychological services including psychosocial assessment, play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation strategies, mindfulness, parent education, and will work in individual, couple, family and group formats. The Social Work Fellow's caseload will include patients of various ages, diagnoses, psychosocial and family dynamic issues, treatment modalities and socioeconomic backgrounds. Emotional support to our patients and families is provided throughout the continuum of care, beginning at time of diagnosis, through treatment and survivorship, as well as supporting patients and families at end of life and into bereavement.

The Social Work Fellow will gain skills in collaboration with medical staff, as well as providing consultation to school personnel and other community agencies. The Social Work Fellow will be encouraged to develop and become involved with clinical programming in an area of interest in the field of pediatric psychosocial oncology. Development of teaching and leadership skills also will be encouraged, and the Social Work Fellow will be expected to present at psychosocial grand rounds at during the training year.

Senior clinical psychosocial staff will provide intensive supervision throughout the year. In addition, the Social Work Fellow will participate in interdisciplinary rounds, clinical meetings, training seminars and have multiple opportunities to attend a wide variety of presentations and trainings throughout Dana-Farber and Boston Children's Hospital.

Fellowship starts on September 1st, 2020 and ends August 31st, 2021.

Benefits include: health and dental insurance, 4 weeks of paid vacation and other benefits. Salary is $42,000.
