Subletting

Posted by Rebecca Brown

Many students get an apartment and think they will be living there through the summer. When March and April come and it's really time to think about summer plans, students change their minds. Thus, they end up renting out their room or "subletting" to someone for the summer. Some landlords and management companies don't allow it but people do it anyway and others will help you find a replacement. It's always good to check in your lease.

Anyway, Craigslist is full of people looking to sublet their room and move home for the summer or elsewhere to save money. Craigslist seems like the only option to list your room but Facebook has a marketplace listing option, and I think Myspace too. You could always post it on a bulletin board at school or the grocery store--just don't let your landlord see it!

If you're looking for a room for the summer your options are endless, but if you're looking to rent it out good luck! I've seen so many people, including my own roommates and neighbors, lo ... more »

Want to share an awesome apartment with an 1st year social work grad student?

Posted by Carrie Schultz

This is my very first blog post. Ever. I feel like I'm growing. :)

I have lived in my apartment in Davis Square for two years and love it. My two housemates are moving out - bound for other cities and scenes, so I have two, possibly three rooms available! Below is the ad that I posted on Craig's List. The only difference in the ad is that if all three rooms are filled, the rent goes down to $600...which would be AWESOME. Please contact me if you or someone you know is interested! Simmons email address is fine or my other one is carrie.schultz@gmail.com.

I hope I hear from you!

Two female room mates looking for a 3rd. 250/mo + utilities in Pepperell, MA

Posted by Susan Dumont

Currently, my room mate and I are looking for a 3rd person to share a 3br apartment. It has a shared kitchen and shared bathroom. One bedroom has a private entrance. The kitchen is big and has major appliances. It's on the 2nd floor of a house-like apartment. We are good friends with the neighbors in the first level apartment. The parking lot is HUGE. It also has cable hookups. The rent for this is $750 a month. Total. So, split 3 ways, it is $250 a month + 1/3 of utilities because utilities are not included. It won't be available until September because the people who lived there just moved out and the landlady is still cleaning it up, but we're trying to put something down so we can just move in at the end of September. We do need a room mate to split the costs, though. The place is nice, and only the first month is due at move-in. It's in the middle of Pepperell, MA. It's close to a laundromat and grocery store; 20 minutes away from Ayer station. If you or someone you know is lookin ... more »
