Executive Director

Community Works seeks a dynamic leader with a deep connection and dedication to social justice and the skills to strategically expand and diversify our fundraising. This person should be a self-starter with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to facilitate the active participation of activists from diverse settings and causes. 

Founded in 1982, Community Works (CW) is a cooperative fundraising effort among community-based and social justice oriented organizations. Our goal is to develop a stable and growing source of support for our member organizations, primarily through participation in workplace giving campaigns and through individual contributions. CW supports its members through networking, training, technical assistance, and pooled resources. We are a member-directed federation. Each of our member agencies holds a seat on the board of directors.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and strategically guide the successful implementation of CW'sWorkplace Giving campaigns, given the changing nature of corporate philanthropy.
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day Administration of the organization, including the supervision of a small staff, preparation of reports for the Board of Directors, management of consultants and oversight of the finances and related reporting for the organization.
  • Work with members of the Development Committee to oversee and strategically guide efforts to implement effective strategies to increase CW's fundraising from charitable giving sources such as Corporate Giving, Foundations and Individual Donors.
  • Represent Community Works publicly and work with members, staff and consultants to maintain and expand CW's Branding and Marketing within both traditional and social media. Explore new ways to leverage CW'sCommunications to raise public awareness of social justice issues, of Community Works, the vital work of our members and our shared causes.

 Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice, with experience in community organizations.
  • At least five years of experience in organizational and fiscal management, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Experience managing and supervising staff and contractors/consultants.
  • Experience with organizational planning and development.
  • Experience with grant writing and fundraising from corporations, individuals and foundations.
  • Inclusive and facilitative leadership approach.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups, identify shared interests and common goals.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills and public speaking experience.

Salary:  Offering a starting full-time salary of $45,000-$60,000 depending on experience, plus benefits.
