Relief Counselor

Step by Step Supportive Services is an intimate organization comprised of Friends, families and professionals dedicated to supporting individuals with cognitive, social and/or psychiatric disabilities. Our goal is to help each person achieve self-awareness and independence. It is incumbent upon the Relief Counselor to provide our clients with the support necessary to reach these goals in a safe and caring environment while meeting the needs of our staffing levels.


• Provide varying shift coverage as needed and available.
• Report to work as arranged with supervisors in order to maintain shift coverage and primary supervision and support of residential clients.
• Responsible for reporting work availability on a weekly basis to the primary supervisor.
• ·Create and maintain a safe and supportive atmosphere by following program policies, and procedures.
• Encourage clients to exhibit appropriate behavior, assist with daily living skills education, and demonstrate constructive personal and social relationships. Assist clients with constructive time management.
• Assist and document the implementation of long and short-term goals for each client.
• Ensure effective communication of priority information to all necessary staff and shifts.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies including contacting appropriate staff and supervisor(s), interacting with police, fire, and medical personnel as needed.
• Complete designated program-specific, shift-specific tasks.
• Assistance with facilitating group programming as needed including dinner programming, supportive groups, wellness groups, & Saturday outings in the community.
• Transportation of clients to and from appointments and activities as needed.


• Bachelor's degree in relevant human services field
• At least one year experience
• Computer literate
• Ability to consistently meet all necessary background and credentialing requirements.
• Valid driver's license. Must have reliable transportation to and from work and the ability to transport clients to and from appointments and activities as needed.
